While medical simulation training is becoming firmly established within our Acute Hospitals and Schools of Nursing and Medicine, the needs of Primary Care are no less important. Jim Milligan, Primary Care Resuscitation Officer of the NHS Fife region invites us to look at the newly built simulation training suite at the Cardenden Health Centre and tells us how their simulation programmes are helping to overcome some of the unique challenges in primary care. The simulation team at the hospital is now adding another dimension to staff training by running specifically tailored simulations away from the simulation suite and into the actual workplace, so that teams working together also train together, and so further help to improve patient outcomes. Founded in 1949, the National Federation of Licensed Professional Nurses (NFLPN) is the official voice of licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) in the United States. With their strong focus on CPR training and already engaged in a number of community CPR programmes, the TrygFonden foundation considered this school project an excellent opportunity to further widen the scope of CPR competence among the lay public.

''What we do to develop the simulation training is quite unique here in Scandinavia'', says specialized nurse and operational coordinator at the Army Medical Service Course Center (FSAN) Lotta Lyden. ''To bring a greater sense of reality into the practical training, a new concept has been developed inside the surgery building where we can build mock-up trenches and apply requisites likes smoke, light, heat, and odors. The center for Military Medicine was looking to renew its educational models as the instructors wanted to bring more realism into the replicated war-like scenarios that are developed for paramedic training.
